2008 WINNER: LORENA OCHOA

April 6, 2008 - Lorena Ochoa birdied the first two holes on the final round Sunday and never looked back, shooting a 67 to finish 11-under par to win the Kraft Nabisco Championship held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

Ochoa began the final day at six-under par, one stroke ahead of Hee-Won Han. After the opening two birdies, Ochoa added three more birdies on holes eight, nine and ten, finishing five strokes ahead of Annika Sorenstam and Suzann Pettersen, who both finished at six under par. Maria Hjorth placed fourth at five under.

Amanda Blumenherst, a junior from Duke University, was the top amateur player of the tournament, finishing at five over par.

The 2008 Kraft Nabisco Championship was the last for Amy Alcott, who leaves the tournament with 29 career LPGA victories on the Tour. Alcott was the original lady of the lake, starting the tradition of jumping into Poppie's Pond on the 18th hole in 1988.

Ochoa, coming off a victory at the Safeway International in Arizona at the end of March, became the first player since Sorenstam in 2005 to win a major after winning a tournament the previous week. The Kraft Nabisco Championship is Ochoa's second victory at a major tournament since the 2007 RICOH Women's British Open.

Ochoa celebrated her victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship with friends and family as they all made the jump into Poppie's Pond in front of a crowd of cheering fans with Mexican flags and a live mariachi band.
